The objective is to sink the opponent’s fleet by guessing their ship locations, with hits marked by fire and misses by water splashes.
Players strategically place their ships horizontally or vertically, ensuring no ships touch, even diagonally, in most versions. Optimal strategies include spreading ships to avoid predictable patterns, mixing orientations, and staggering large ships like the Carrier to minimize consecutive hits. Some versions allow rotation or randomized placement for quick setup.
Target the Center: Shooting at central grid squares maximizes hit probability, as ships occupy multiple squares.
Use Probability Gaps: Focus on less-tested areas as the game progresses to uncover hidden ships.
